Fresh Perspectives with Jeffrey Milburn, produced by Omni Art Salon Productions offers listeners around the world the opportunity to hear fascinating, in-depth conversations with authors, scientists, politicians, doctors, academics, innovators, and artists investigating today’s most compelling ideas and concepts.

Jim Calaway

Today’s conversation is with Jim Calaway, a philanthropist-businessman from Carbondale, Colorado. Jim served as the Chair of The Aspen Institutes Society of Fellows before he became a trustee in 1997. In 2000, he was selected as an Honorary Trustee, and was later appointed to the Council of Honorary Trustees.

Jim was in the oil and gas exploration business for over 40 years and retired as Chairman of Edge Petroleum in the late 1980s. He now partners with his son in building wind farms in several states to generate renewable energy.

In addition, since his retirement, Jim has set his sights on philanthropy and fundraising for civic groups and nonprofit organizations.  Jim served as a regent of the University of Corpus Christi, a trustee of Antioch College, and a board member of the Colorado Mountain College Foundation and he

ACLU

was the Treasurer for the American Civil Liberties Union on the national level and is a lifetime member of the NAACP.

Dog

Dogs and Cats are very dear to Jims heart and so he co-founded the Colorado Animal Rescue Shelter that has taken in, cared for and adopted out over 7,000 homeless dogs and cats. Mr. Calaway received two presidential appointments during Jimmy Carter’s administration to the National Petroleum Council and as Commissioner of Presidential Scholars.

At 79, Jim offers his inimitable insights and experience that come from a lifetime of involvement in many diverse arenas and endeavors that have given him a rare opportunity that few ever experience.

We think you will find Jeffreys conversation with Jim extremely interesting and compelling and because of his animated personality, singular breadth of experience and his passionate interest in helping to make life a better place for so many in many different ways, an inspiration in a time when so much cynicism permeates our mainstream world.
